orbital debris / space traffic management

ISU research project on Space Traffic Management

NASA Ames has a research project based off of this for a year (Thx to Will Marshall for link!)

How Much Junk Orbits Around the Earth?

"The North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) tracks anything in orbit that's bigger than a softball and then disseminates that information in the form of an orbit descriptor called a Two Line Element (TLE). Matthew Kozak visualizes this data on an interactive 3D globe. It's implemented in Processing, and maybe best of all, the source code is available."

Rogue satellites to be cleared from Earth's orbit by German robots

Interesting but also worrysome about the concept of pushing all of our space junk into a "graveyard orbit" that doesn't bother functioning satellites. I think this only creates a larger isser. Orbital debris should be cleared out, not pushed into an orbit we don't currently need.
